ThaumCheater is an android application built to be a companion to the popular Thaumcraft Minecraft mod. ThaumCheater provides valuable research information to make solving the Thaumcraft research puzzles much easier.

ThaumCheater can be downloaded from Google Play here.

If you have any issues or notice something wrong, you can let me know using the built-in contact form, or you can post it in our Issue Tracker

The last update to ThaumCheater was effectively broken. I had a major bug in one of my tools that caused the saved aspect names for ingredients to always be english instead of latin. This resulted in the app not being able to find recipe aspects at all. This issue has been fixed, and the most recent release should work 100% as advertised.

With the newest release, ThaumCheater now supports multiple languages, and lets you specify what language you want to use. It now has all supported Thaumcraft versions pre-built into the app, so there’s no more downloading required. While this does result in a slightly larger application download, it also results in a lot less of your device’s storage space being used.

As always, if you have any issues with ThaumCheater, please don’t hesitate to post it in the issue tracker.

I just noticed tonight that Thaumcraft v5.1.6 is out, so I went ahead and decoded it and updated ThaumCheater. I’ve copied the research items over from the previous versions, as I assume they haven’t changed much. As always, let me know if any of them are wrong and I’ll do what I can to get them fixed.

If you are reading this post, then you are probably already aware of my struggle to get the attention of Azanor to provide permission for me to use the name Thaumcrafter. Since Azanor has been remiss to respond to my inquiries, I have no choice but to rename the app to ThaumCheater.

Unfortunately, it’s not really as simple as just renaming the application. Google informs me that I must also rename the application package, and that is a big deal. If I change the name of the package, then I have to also upload it as a new app. That means that the current 50+ users will be using an old, unsupported version with no real way of knowing it.

I do however have a plan of attack. I am currently working on the next version of the app, which has been fully renamed to ThaumCheater. Once I have all the necessary Google Play images redone, I will be publishing that as ThaumCheater. Shortly afterwards, i will be publishing an update to Thaumcrafter that will essentially remove all functionality of the app and replace it with a notification screen. This way, current users will be notified of the change.

It’s not a plan that I really like, but after having communicated with Google for a while, I don’t really feel like I have much of a choice. I don’t want to leave any users working with an old app that isn’t being supported anymore.

This morning I released additional versions for ThaumCheater. When you open the app and go to Manage Versions, you should now see a total of three Thaumcraft versions that are supported. The new versions do not have research images, so they only provide the aspect guide. I do hope to get research images available at some point, but I can’t tell how soon that may be.

I’ve released the update to Thaumcrafter. In order to release it though, I had to change the Google Play title to ThaumCheater. I have attempted to contact Azanor to get permission to use the name Thaumcrafter, but he isn’t responding to inquiries.

Since Azanor isn’t responding, I don’t really have much choice but to begin the process of renaming the application to ThaumCheater. I will keep checking though, so if he does respond then maybe we’ll be able to get what is needed for Google to get off my back about the name.

I also intend to get more version data onto the app as soon as possible. I just haven’t had the time to do this yet as it’s been really hectic at work, and I’ve had some other things going on in my home life. I believe some of this is going to get a little more relaxed soon so I’ll be able to get the other version data entered.

Please note, that when I do release the other version data, it will most likely just be the aspects, and not include research images. This is where you guys can come in to help. You can send me screenshots of your completed research, and let me know what version of Thaumcraft it was from.

While absolutely nothing has changed in the app other than a few minor bug fixes, Google is rejecting the update on the grounds of a Spam violation. Like I said though, when I submitted the update I didn’t change the title, description, or anything. I tried contacting Google via chat to see if they could tell me a little more specifically what the problem was, but the lady that was chatting with me said they can’t address Google Play policies in chat so she had to forward it to someone else and they’ll get back in touch with me within two days.

I’m a bit perplexed by this. I mean, if the application description or title was the issue, shouldn’t the first release have been rejected instead of waiting for a random update? What’s even more frustrating is the help documentation alludes that it could be either the application title or the description. The description can be fixed, but I don’t really like the idea of changing the title of the app once its been published and users have started to install it.

Anyways, that just means it may take a few stinking days for the update to be released. In the meantime however, the updated data is still available. Just delete your existing data and download the new data.

I have uploaded Thaumcrafter v1.1 to the google play store to fix a few bugs in the application.

Bug Fixes

  1. Fix for empty button appearing in the connections for base aspects
  2. Fix for aspects not being displayed with their correct colors
  3. Fix for aspects that were missing from data for TC V4.1.0g

The update itself with not fix the missing aspects. To get this fix, go to the manage data screen, tap the red X button to remove your existing data, then tap the green down arrow to download the new data from the server.

If you download the new data without deleting the old data, you will end up with two entries for the same version, and you won’t be able to fix this without uninstalling and reinstalling the app. In a future version I plan to fix this so that you can simply download an update for a version that you already have installed. I also plan to make updating the data much faster by having it only download data that you need for the update.

As far as I know, TC V4.1.0g is complete in the app for the features that are currently released. Unless someone finds a bug, or suggests any major changes to improve it, my next step is to work on adding more TC versions to the app for download.

I’ve been quiet on this site lately. Mostly because I’ve been working hard on several projects. Today, one of those projects has reached the point where it can be published, and so it has. The app name is Thaumcrafter, and its available for most Android devices.

What is Thaumcrafter you ask? Well it’s not a game, and it’s not a business app. I’ve actually registered Thaumcrafter as a reference app. That’s because Thaumcrafter acts as a reference for Thaumcraft aspects and research.

If you’re asking what Thaumcraft is, then this app probably isn’t for you, unless you like Minecraft and magical Minecraft mods. Thaumcraft is a huge mod for Minecraft that is focused upon magic that revolves around about 50 or so aspects. To unlock new magical devices and wands you complete research puzzles. Thaumcrafter provides answers to some of these puzzles, and will provide other tools to help in solving them.

Thaumcrafter is being released now as an early public test, to help ensure there are no bugs in the software. The data for the application is still incomplete, and I will be working on completing the data soon, as well as adding data for additional Thaumcraft versions.
