I know, it has been a long time since I've uploaded any videos to my YouTube channel, and there have been a lot of very valid reasons for that. None of which have anything to do with the decision I am making today. For the purpose of this post, I think I should explain why there haven't been any videos first, then I will explain my decision today. The uploads stopped initially because I became sick. After the illness passed, I found myself just not having the time, or the desire to continue. Remember I was fighting constantly with my equipment because it just wasn't up to the task. Well, eventualy we moved to North Carolina, and during the move, all our computers were stolen out of our family van. It took some time, but I've finally replaced the equipment that was stolen, with much better replacements. You'd think at this point that I could resume uploading, but no. I no longer have a private room where I can record in peice. And even if I did, I wouldn't want to use YouTube anymore anyways. That brings us to the decision I'm making today. As of this point forward, I will no longer be using YouTube as the host for any content I produce. This decision has came about solely based upon the recent policy changes that were made by YouTube itself. Since the last video was uploaded, I am no longer partnered with the Makers network. That means that I now rely upon the YouTube partnership. But to maintain that partnership, I have to have a steady 1000 new subscribers per year. My channel was lucky to have more than 1000 new subscribers in its first year, but it only gained a handfull of subscribers per month after that. The channel wouldn't even come close to the minimum requirements that YouTube set forth. Failing to match the requirements means that my channel would not be a YouTube partner channel, and I would not be able to place advertisements on my videos. Obviously this means I would not make any money doing this. Now I will say again that it was never about the money, but the money was an incentive. Maintaining my channel cost money. Money that I would not be able to earn from the channel anymore. That means I'd have to take that money out of my family budget, somethign that I'm just not willing to do. All that said, that does not mean that I won't ever produce any more content. I am looking for a new venue for my content. When I have a private place to record again, then I will resume producing content, just as I had before. Right now though, I can't really say when that will be.
